Gezonder leven: hoe doe je dat? De manier waarop we bewegen, eten en ontspannen heeft enorme invloed op onze gezondheid. Sterker nog: 70 procent van de ziektelast is mede veroorzaakt door leefstijl. (Bron: WHO)
Voedingspatroon en gezondheid
Veel Nederlanders eten dagelijks nog te weinig groente en fruit, te veel zout en de verkeerde vetten en suikers. Op lange termijn kunnen daardoor bijvoorbeeld hart- en vaatziekten ontstaan. Bij langdurig overgewicht hebben mensen een hoger risico op Diabetes type 2.
Het Voedingscentrum adviseert dagelijks genoeg groente en fruit te eten, vlees af te wisselen met vis, peulvruchten, noten en eieren. Ook een quick win: laat de frisdrank staan en neem een glas water. Of neem een kopje thee of koffie. Zonder suiker natuurlijk!
Gezonder leven = meer bewegen
We zitten te veel. Achter onze computer of op de bank. Slechts 45% van de Nederlanders haalt de aanbevolen beweegnorm van 2,5 uur matig intensief bewegen per week. Door te weinig beweging kun je je depressief gaan voelen. Ook hart- en vaatziekten kun je voorkomen door een gezonde voeding te combineren met voldoende beweging. Gezonder leven is dus ook méér bewegen.
Slechte gewoontes: roken, drinken en veel stress
Dat roken en alcohol drinken slecht voor ons is, weten we inmiddels wel. Toch zijn alcohol en sigaretten nog steeds bijna overal te koop. Ook bij kleine hoeveelheden alcohol wordt de kans op Diabetes type 2, een leverziekte of een beroerte groter. Periodes van stress zorgen er vaak voor dat mensen ongezonder gaan leven. Even een sigaretje om bij te komen na een drukke dag of een glaasje wijn om te ontspannen. Begrijpelijk, maar die gewoontes zorgen weer voor slaapproblemen, hoofdpijn en hart- en vaatziektes. Het is dus belangrijk om stress te herkennen en te vermijden. En: vervang die sigaret voor een stevige avondwandeling.
Je wilt gezonder leven: waar begin je?
Gezonder eten, meer bewegen, beter slapen, stress vermijden: Hoe doe je het allemaal? Begin met kleine stapjes die voor jou makkelijk zijn. Focus je op een ding tegelijk en wees niet te streng voor jezelf. Dan houd je je nieuwe leefstijl langer vol.
